Sisters Code - New Technology/Coding Organization: Looking for Web Developers, Graphic Designer, and Instructional Designer

Hello All,

I'm excited to announce that my global organization "Sisters Code," will launch this summer in Detroit in partnership with Microsoft Corporation!  Sisters Code's mission is educate, empower, and entice women (including ALL ethnic/socio-economic groups) ages 25 - 85 to explore the world of coding and technology.  I am offering a "weekend website warrior" program where the participants will learn to create a website in two days.  We will also offer a "computer 101" class the day before, for those who need the basics.  We will also offer: advanced classes, hands-on experience opportunities, technology career assistance and STEM News!

Although Microsoft is sponsoring the initial event (which will be free for the participants,) I need your help!  I am putting together a "curriculum" advisory team and need the following expertise:

1.  Two Web Developers with expertise in HTML and Java Script
2.  One or Two Graphic Designers
3.  Someone with expertise in instructional/curriculum design

I believe this dynamic team could meet a few times, and create an amazing program - so it won't take up much of your time!

I am going to open up registration for the pilot (held in June) and the launch (held in August), so let me know if you or someone you know may be interested as the classes are limited to 20 women.  ***We already have interest from corporations and organizations in other states and countries, so we will need trainers willing to travel and teach***.Will keep you posted on that!

This is going to be an amazing - please consider joining the movement that will "transform lives!"

Capture the Flag. CTF. Few things inspire as much dread and yet bring back memories of as much fun as those three little letters. CTF.

As many of you know, MiSec has been playing CTFs for some time. We have done CTF workshops. We have held mini competitions. Baby CTFs. First steps. But now we are ready to take the big leap.

In conjunction with the BSides Chicago crew, MiSec announces the first ever cross-city and cross-con CTF. The competition starts tomorrow in Chicago. It ends June 8th in Detroit. Competitors can play along online, or join us at BSides Chicago and BSides Detroit. Fun will be had.

May's MiSec meeting will be on Thursday, May 9th, at 7 pm. Last month, Steven Legg tackled Windows hardening. This month, we get the other side of the story. Mark Stanislav is presenting Core Linux Security: 0-Day Isn't Everything.

Abstract: When discussion on hardening Linux systems occurs, usually someone will swear by a single feature or application to 'save the day'. In reality, a mesh of complimentary technologies, most of which are built-in or easily installable on a Linux box, is the best way to go. Defense in depth is more than marketing lingo, it's a way of life for actual information security. Come see some of the technologies you may have ignored, never knew existed, or just weren't fully leveraging in some helpful ways to add layered security to your next Linux deployment.
